Marengo CIMS Hospital has successfully completed these RDN procedures using the Symplicity Catheter. The Symplicity Catheter is an instrument that helps provide low-level radio frequency energy via the renal artery wall to burn the nerves in the walls.

Due to this accomplishment, CIMS became the first hospital in India to execute 4 Renal Denervation (RDN) procedures in Ahmedabad, with the first procedure taking place as early as October 2013. Furthermore, we are the first hospital in Gujarat to acquire the advanced Simplicity Spyral Renal Denervation System.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) occurs when the pressure inside the blood vessels gets too high (140/90 mmHg or higher). In India, approximately 31 to 32 percent of the population or 184 million individuals suffer from this condition presently. And, only 37 percent of Indians with this condition are diagnosed and 30 percent get effective treatment.

Renal Denervation Therapy is an effective treatment for hypertension. It is a catheterization-based procedure that helps lower the blood pressure. It targets certain nerves near the kidneys responsible for causing high blood pressure. In this procedure, ultrasound or heat energy is delivered to these nerves to limit/restrict their activities. The procedure is minimally invasive and normally takes around 50 to 60 minutes.

The procedure extends hope to people suffering from hypertension, a condition which can be serious if not treated. Among four patients who were treated by the most experienced doctors of Marengo CIMS Hospital, two were females, and two were males. All were grappling with blood pressure above 170 mmHg despite taking 5 to 6 medications. All of them were discharged on the very next day and have made excellent progress post-surgery.
