Dr Himanshu Champaneri is the Clinical Director and Chief Functional & Epilepsy Neurosurgeon at Marengo Asia Hospitals, Gurugram. He leads one of India’s most advanced programs in functional, epilepsy and endoscopic neurosurgery.

He is internationally recognised for his pioneering work in epilepsy surgery, particularly for pediatric patients, where timely intervention improves development, cognition, and overall quality of life.

His expertise spans the full spectrum of functional neurosurgery, managing complex disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, intractable pain, neurogenic bladder, and drug-resistant psychiatric conditions.

Dr Champaneri is among the few neurosurgeons in India performing network-guided stereotactic lesioning for epilepsy and movement disorders, in addition to all major neuromodulation procedures including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS), Sacral Nerve Stimulation (SNS), and Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS).

He has extensive experience in spasticity surgery, performing selective rhizotomy and baclofen pump therapy to restore independence in children and adults with cerebral palsy or spastic weakness.

He has revolutionized brain tumor and spine surgery through his proprietary Endoportal system, enabling precise microsurgical resections through a 2 cm access port while preserving healthy neural tissues. His endoportal techniques for disc prolapse and degenerative spine disorders emphasize functional tissue preservation and long-term recovery.

A national faculty and proctor for DBS and VNS, Dr Champaneri continues to train neurosurgeons across India and has contributed to multiple national and international publications and book chapters in functional neurosurgery.

Overview :

Dr Himanshu Champaneri is the Clinical Director - Neurosurgeon in the Department of Neurosurgery at Marengo Asia Hospitals, Gurugram, and is responsible for Functional, Epilepsy & Endoscopic Neurosurgery (FEENS) services for the Marengo Asia Health Care Hospitals. Having over 14 years of experience in the field, he has experience of over 1500+ neurosurgeries. He has extensive experience in functional neurosurgery with patients with Parkinson's Disease, Dystonia, Essential Tremors, Failed Back Syndrome, Metastatic Pain Syndrome, Spastic Cerebral Palsy, Refractory Neuropathic Pain Syndromes and Peripheral Peripheral Nerve Palsies. He has performed a variety of functional neurosurgeries like Deep Brain Stimulation, Spinal Cord Stimulation, Phrenic Nerve Stimulation, Stereotactic ablative procedures, Intrathecal Baclofen Pump Implantation, Cervical Rhizotomies and Peripheral Neurotizations. He is an expert in Epilepsy Surgery like intraoperative ECOG guided resections, Callosotomy, Subpial Resections and Vagus Nerve Stimulation. He has mastered the art of performing Brain Tumor Surgery via 1.8cm EndoPort. He performs Brain and Spine Tumor Resections using Intraoperative Ultrasound to facilitate complete & safe tumor resections. He is an expert in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgeries for lumbar & cervical fixations and scoliosis surgery. Dr Champaneri is one of the few neurosurgeons in Delhi-NCR to perform peripheral nerve surgeries like brachial plexus repair and peripheral nerve schwannomas. He has significant academic and research experience with many publications and book chapters that are focused on improving our comprehensive service in neurosurgery.
